The following are the latest updates available related to COVID-19 for April 30, 2020
Student Aid Package Approved
The legislation to provide financial supports to students was passed in the House of Commons last night, with some changes.
Under the new program, students would be eligible for $1,250 a month from May through August. The benefit is available also to students who have jobs but are making less than $1,000 a month.
Students with a disability or who are caring for dependents will receive $2,000 a month — the same amount offered by the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB).
Students who collect this emergency financial aid will be required to confirm that they're looking for summer work and will be connected with a government job bank to help employers struggling with shortages of labour.
It is expected that this legislation will pass through the senate tomorrow and quickly receive royal assent.
Ontario Guidelines for Workplaces During the COVID-19 Pandemic
In partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development, provincial health and safety associations (HSAs) have released a series of more than 60 technical sector guidance documents to further support employers and employees in remaining safe in the workplace during the COVID-19 outbreak.
The new safety guidelines will provide direction to various industries including retail, health care, manufacturing, tourism, restaurant and food service, offices, construction sites, and transit and transportation services. Community-based health care clinics are not included in the current guidelines.
