As the news about the COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly evolving, we have created a daily update so you can access a summary of all of the latest news available.

Closure of Non-Essential Businesses

The Government of Ontario has ordered the closure of all non-essential businesses and services, as of 11:59 pm. tonight, March 24, 2020. Health care professionals providing emergency care are included on the list of essential businesses.

Healthcare Provider Recruitment 

The Ontario Ministry of Health is recruiting regulated health professionals that can support front-line providers, and help the efforts to control the spread of COVID-19. This would be a part-time commitment, and you are invited to apply on the Health Force Ontario website with your personal information as well as information about your expertise and preferences for areas in which to help.

Donating Personal Protective Equipment 

If you have any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that you can spare, the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) and Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) are asking that you donate smaller quantities directly. We are making this request in order help transfer resources locally to front line healthcare providers.

Reconvening Parliament 

Parliament has been reconvened today, with a limited number of MPs so as to properly observe social distancing measures. They will be debating and approving recently announced emergency measures. We expect to be able to provide you with further information about the results tomorrow. 

CMTO COVID-19 Webpage 

The CMTO has created a dedicated webpage for all COVID-19 related information and resources.

All CMTO information related to COVID-19 will be available on this page, including a link to the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health’s formal directive to healthcare providers pursuant to the Health Protection and Promotion Act ordering that all non-essential and elective services be ceased or reduced to minimal levels until further notice. This directive applies to all regulated health professionals and persons who operate a group practice of regulated health professionals (e.g. clinic owners).
