The federal government has recently introduced three new benefits to help those financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. These benefits are the Canada Recovery Caregiver Benefit, the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit and the Canada Recovery Benefit.

Canada Recovery Caregiver Benefit

The Canada Recovery Caregiver Benefit provides $500 ($450 after taxes withheld) for each 1-week period for eligible individuals.

You are not eligible for this benefit if you are receiving the Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB), Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB), short-term disability benefits, workers' compensation benefits, or Employment Insurance (EI) benefits during the same time period.

Only one person per household is eligible for this benefit in any given week. You are eligible for this benefit if you must care for their child under 12 years old or a family member who needs supervised care as a result of COVID-19. This applies if their school, regular program or facility is closed or unavailable to them due to COVID-19, or because they're sick, self-isolating, or at risk of serious health complications due to COVID-19 as defined by a medical professional.

You can apply through your CRA account or by calling toll free 1-800-959-2019 or 1-800-959-2041.

This benefit provides $500 ($450 after taxes withheld) for a 1-week period. If your situation continues past 1 week, you will need to apply again. You may apply up to a total of 2 weeks.
