Massage Therapy Awareness Week is October 24-30, 2021, and this year to celebrate the RMTAO will be focusing on the diverse ways that massage therapy can play an important role in someone’s healthcare. We will also be focusing on ways that Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) can celebrate all that massage therapy has to offer during Massage Therapy Awareness Week.

Many people are aware of a few of the conditions that can benefit from massage therapy, such as low back pain, but aren’t necessarily aware of the diverse ways that massage therapy can help. We will be highlighting diverse people with different jobs, conditions or injuries that have all benefited from massage therapy in some way. We also developed a Guide to Celebrating Massage Therapy Awareness Week which gives you some ideas to celebrate yourself.

RMTs are an important part of peoples’ health care teams, and massage therapy can help people manage the symptoms of an illness or injury, and actively participate in the activities they love with their friends and families.

By sharing these stories and spreading the word about the benefits of massage therapy, you are celebrating Massage Therapy Awareness Week, and ensuring massage therapy is more accessible to more people.

The patients we have highlighted have used massage therapy to overcome a variety of challenges, from chronic constipation from spending all her time in a wheelchair, to remaining pain-free in a physically taxing job like industrial climbing, to coping with osteoarthritis and the physical symptoms of anxiety. What these patients have in common is their desire to continue with massage therapy to help manage their pain and continue participating in their regular daily activities.

“RMTs play an important part in their patients’ health care teams, and it’s essential now more than ever that people can access the massage therapy care they need,” said Michael Feraday, Executive Director and CEO of the RMTAO. “Massage therapy can help people with a variety of injuries and conditions and in a variety of circumstances, and this week we’re highlighting the ways RMTs have been able to help their patients reduce their pain and improve their quality of life.”

RMTs are regulated health professionals, and they are able to adapt their treatments for individuals of all ages and conditions. Research has shown that massage therapy is a valuable treatment option for musculoskeletal pain caused by a variety of conditions and can help people improve their mobility. RMTs work closely with other healthcare professionals to achieve positive outcomes for their patients.

This Massage Therapy Awareness Week, we will be highlighting patients who have been helped by massage therapy in diverse ways, inviting our audience to #AskYourRMT how they can help, and use the hashtag #MTAW to join the celebration. We will also be sharing a guide to help our members celebrate Massage Therapy Awareness Week in their practices and in their communities. Visit us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and share our Massage Therapy Awareness Week posts with your networks to spread the word about all of the benefits of massage therapy.
