Guest Speaker Presentation: Consent Comes First: Cultivating a Culture of Care in Massage Therapy by Farrah Khan
From the #MeToo movement to healthcare settings, there's an unprecedented conversation about sexual harassment happening across North America. For massage therapists, this conversation is long overdue: 73% of Ontario RMTs have been subjected to sexual harassment by patients, according to a new study by the RMTAO.
Drawing from two decades of experience as a social worker, educator and policy advisor, Farrah Khan delivers a trauma-informed, interactive keynote that addresses sexual harassment by patients. This keynote is grounded in three critical truths: it's never your fault when someone harms you, you are not alone, and we believe you. Together, we will explore practical strategies to enhance safety through policy, procedures, and best practices. Using real scenarios, the ABCs of Intervention model, and the CARE framework, participants will learn harm reduction strategies, exit planning techniques, how to support colleagues, and their rights under OHSA.
You will leave with concrete tools to help build the profession we all deserve, one where safety, support, and well-being are non-negotiable.
