Community-Based Networks
Community-Based Networks (CBNs) allow RMTs in every community to connect, share knowledge and seek support. CBNs provide RMTs with networking, social, and educational activities, and are open to all RMTs and massage therapy students, not just RMTAO members.
The RMTAO provides CBNs with various useful resources, and promotion for meetings on our website and in the Friday File. CBN coordinators are also invited to contact the RMTAO for any questions, suggestions or concerns. Content, timing, location and details of meetings and CBNs are up to each individual community.
The RMTAO makes every effort to provide opportunities to connect with your peers because the more united massage therapy is as a profession, the more massage therapists can accomplish.
The following is a list of current active CBNs. If you’re interested in joining a local network, contact the CBN coordinator in your area. If you don’t find a CBN near you, you can start one by contacting Angela Paton, Member Services Manager at angela@rmtao.com.

Why should you join your local CBN?
The majority of RMTs throughout Ontario work as sole proprietors or as the sole RMT within a multidisciplinary health practitioner team. With a limited circle of peers, you might not be able to discuss the various complex issues that you may face in your practice. Joining a CBN will allow you to have access to one of the greatest resources in this profession: your peers.
You can contribute to the profession’s evidence-based practice model by learning about case study research. A strong research base can lead to stronger credibility and greater opportunities for the profession.
The RMTAO has identified a need for greater entrepreneurial business acumen. You can gain access to professional business resources that will prove to be invaluable in your practice.
The launch of a career as an RMT in Ontario can be intimidating and overwhelming. Take the opportunity to meet with more established RMTs or those with different practice focuses through an informal mentoring process.
Connect with your professional association. The RMTAO advocates on behalf of all RMTs in Ontario and CBNs allow for increased communication between RMTs and their professional association.
One of the goals of the RMTAO is to create a strong, province-wide community of RMTs. As a collective we will be able to work on a variety of projects to help move the profession forward.
