Presented By Terri Rowan

Managing your finances as a self-employed RMT shouldn't be time-consuming or complicated. If you're still struggling, the problem usually isn't a lack of information — it's the absence of a system.

This session introduces a practical Excel-based tool for tracking and managing your income across two timeframes: short-term (weekly and monthly) and long-term (quarterly and yearly). You'll learn how to move your income into digital "envelopes" — dedicated categories for taxes, operating expenses, and savings — so that money is automatically earmarked as it comes in, rather than sorted out after the fact.

Designed specifically for the realities of independent contractors and sole-proprietors, this system removes some of the guesswork from tax season, reduces financial anxiety, and gives you a clear, repeatable process for staying on top of your numbers — without needing an accounting background.

Attendees will leave with a working spreadsheet template and the framework to start using it immediately.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
  • Apply a systems-based approach to financial management, understanding why building a repeatable process — rather than chasing isolated financial goals — leads to more sustainable, stress-free money management in a self-employed practice.
  • Implement small, consistent financial habits (such as weekly check-ins and automated "envelope" transfers) that reduce the year-end scramble typically associated with tax season and irregular income tracking.
  • Recognize that tax preparedness doesn't require specialized expertise, and leave with a simple system for setting aside the right amount for taxes throughout the year — removing the need to "figure it all out" come filing season.
  • Identify practical self-care and boundary-setting approaches that contribute to long-term career sustainability.

About the Presenter:

Terri Rowan, RMT, brings a lifelong interest in building practical systems to her work as a Registered Massage Therapist and sole proprietor in downtown Guelph. Before entering massage therapy, Terri worked in a time-sensitive union environment, where clear processes and reliable systems weren't optional — they were essential to getting things done under pressure. That experience shaped how she approaches the business side of running her own practice: with an emphasis on structure, consistency, and sustainable habits over reactive problem-solving.

Since graduating massage school in 2011, Terri has spent over a decade building, testing, and refining a financial system tailored to the realities of self-employed practice — one designed to reduce stress, simplify tax season, and support long-term sustainability. She also leads a Community Based Network connecting with students and new RMTs, helping them build sustainable practices from the ground up, one system at a time.
