This webinar will debunk several myths related to massage therapy, such as  “massage flushes toxins”, “no pain, no gain”, and “massage doesn’t really do anything”. We will review and discuss physiological mechanisms and peer-reviewed evidence related to the myths, discuss the many ways myths are perpetuated, and introduce strategies to combat misinformation and promote critical appraisal of medias in our professional and personal lives.

About the Presenter

Christin Sadler MSc, RMT

Christin is a Ph.D. student, researcher, and professor at the University of Ottawa in the Faculty of Health Sciences. She has a Master of Science degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa, and has published over 10 peer-reviewed articles in the fields of motor control, neurophysiology, and sleep research. Christin has taught anatomy, physiology, and clinical science courses to massage therapy students at colleges in both British Columbia (BC) and Ontario, and currently teaches musculoskeletal anatomy to undergraduate students at the University of Ottawa. Christin has been a registered massage therapist (RMT) since 2009, initially working in various multi-disciplinary clinics in Vancouver before moving to Ottawa in 2014.


She was a member of Swimming Canada’s integrated support team (IST) from 2009 to 2019, and worked closely with other therapists, scientists, and coaches to support Canada’s national team athletes at international competitions, including several World Championships and the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. Christin currently practices at Continuum Fitness & Movement Performance in Ottawa.
