THE LOW BACK AND LOWER BODY WORKSHOP
Key Learning Outcomes:
- See the Big Picture: Stop chasing pain and start seeing the full-body postural patterns driving your patients' issues from the feet up.
- Unlock the Joints: Deepen your understanding of joint motion biomechanics from the feet to the pelvis and low back, including assessment and techniques on how to get them moving again.
- Build a Foundation: Learn how to assess and correct foot function, recognizing that the feet serve as the body’s foundation and dictate movement patterns further up the chain.
- The 1: The one overlooked knee movement - and the simple technique to fix it, that resolves a wide range of issues.
- Align the Pelvis: Give the low back and SI Joint a break by learning to restore pelvic alignment and mobility.
About the Instructor: Adam Leavens
Low back complaints are one of the main reasons our patients come to us. Adam Leavens of Structural Integration Toronto suggests that assessing and treating the joints and soft tissue patterns of the feet, knees and pelvis can greatly influence the low back. This may not always be a primary focus in every RMT’s practice, but can it drastically improve their treatment results.
Many therapists notice a recurring cycle: patients returning with the exact same tightness and symptoms, requiring the same areas to be worked on repeatedly. Adam explores the "why" behind this cycle, investigating the root causes, identifying where else in the body therapists should be looking and how to address common patterns in the feet, knees, pelvis and low back to create long lasting change in their patients bodies.
Experience & Education:
With over 22 years of experience as an RMT and educator, Adam has had the privilege of learning from some of the industry’s most influential mentors. His extensive clinical background includes:
Structural Integration: 600 hours of in-person training with Thomas Myers of Anatomy Trains.
Functional Movement: A 40-week intensive training with the Gray Institute.
Fascial Fitness: Specialized workshops with Robert Schleip.
Neurovascular Release: Recent advanced studies with Kier Schumaker.
These mentors have shaped Adam’s philosophy: treating the body by analyzing systems and patterns rather than simply focusing on the localized site of tension or pain.
In this workshop, Adam shares how he blends this diverse knowledge to understand the development of chronic pain. His approach looks at the entire body as an integrated system where every part impacts the whole. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to assess and address body-wide patterns, while focusing on the feet, knees, pelvis, and low back, ultimately leading to more effective and sustainable treatment outcomes for their patients.
